Since the 21 st century,with the accelerating process of globalization,public health emergencies have occurred frequently,seriously affecting the normal order of people's lives.China is in a period of social transition with diversified social thinking and various contradictions,how has People's Daily "performed" in the face of sudden public health events?How has it changed from the SARS coverage in 2003? What are the reasons for the changes?How should the mainstream media improve in the face of public health emergencies in the future? This is a question that the media in China needs to think about,and it is also a question that this paper tries to answer through research.First of all,this paper takes People's Daily as the research object,and uses content analysis and text analysis to investigate its coverage during the SARS and the COVID-19 periods.Through comparison,we find that there are changes in the content of People's Daily,mainly in the following four aspects: first,the sources of information are gradually tilted from official to private sources,and the sources are diversified;second,the topics of reports are changed from single to diversified,focusing on content extension and returning to humanistic care;third,the headlines are changed from focusing on policies to small people,and the headlines are written more lyrically;fourth,the use of quotations Fourth,the use of direct quotations has increased,enhancing the objectivity and readability of the articles.In addition,there are also the following changes in the form of reporting: a large number of front pages are used to report on the epidemic,and more attention is paid to it;more newsletters and commentaries are used in the genre,focusing on the details of the characters and the guidance of public opinion;the length is concise and compact,and "quality" is the king;pictures are mainly used with pictures,supplemented by photo news,focusing on The use of pictures is mainly based on photojournalism,with emphasis on visualization and reproduction of the real situation under the epidemic.Second,we explore the reasons for the changes in the two reports.After 17 years of reform and development,from the point of external medium,the increase of social transformation,the rapid development of science and technology,and the audience culture level influence how media reports;From the medium within view,the new media industry,new and old media say game,journalists,editors of news value judgment affect the media strategy;from the audience's side,the shift of attention,the change of psychological needs,and the improvement of media literacy have also influenced the media's reporting.From the audience's side,the shift of attention,the change of psychological needs and the improvement of media literacy also affect the media coverage.Finally,through reflection and conclusion,it was concluded that the People's Daily had problems such as loss of language in the early stage,strong propaganda color,imbalance of positive and negative reports and insufficient health science popularization in the two epidemic reports,and suggested that in future reports,timely reports should be made to prevent information blockage,focus on humanistic care and get close to people's lives,grasp the psychological needs of audiences at different stages and report in a targeted manner,and pay attention to the function of media science popularization to provide audiences with basic knowledge of disease prevention.
