A Discourse Analysis Study On The Report Of COVID-19 In The International Edition Of The People's Daily ——A Comparison Based On The Report Of SARS In The International Edition Of The People's Daily

China is the second largest economy in the world after the United States.The rapid development and rapid rise of China has attracted great attention of the world.It provides a good opportunity for building and improving international communication capacity and mastering the international discourse power matching the national strength.The study of the international news discourse of Chinese media has practical and theoretical significance.This paper chooses the People's Daily International Edition COVID-19 and SARS epidemic report as the research object,and uses discourse analysis,content analysis and comparative analysis to analyze the news discourse of the People's Daily International Edition COVID-19 epidemic report based on the comparison with the People's Daily International Edition SARS related epidemic report,so as to explore the response of China's mainstream media to the public health crisis,Discourse strategies to improve the ability of international news communication.The study found that in terms of the overall reporting form,first,in terms of the number of reports,the COVID-19 was reported in a timely and comprehensive manner,and the number of reports was generally balanced;Second,in terms of the length of the report,the report on the COVID-19 mainly focuses on medium and long articles to comprehensively show the epidemic prevention and anti epidemic;Thirdly,in terms of news genre,the reports on COVID-19 are mainly based on communication and focus on comments.From the perspective of text analysis,it is found that first,the sources of news information reported on the COVID-19 are more balanced,with domestic and foreign government departments as the main sources,and taking into account the information of organizations,the general public,experts and dignitaries.Second,the theme of the COVID-19 report is to use comprehensive reports to objectively reproduce the global anti epidemic scene from multiple angles.Thirdly,the news headlines of COVID-19 report are mainly declarative titles,and flexibly use rhetoric such as antithesis,quotation and various title forms to strengthen layout design and enrich readers' reading experience.From the perspective of context,the following conclusions can be drawn: first,the political power discourse,the intellectual elite discourse and the daily discourse of the public in the report of COVID-19 should be paid equal attention to,so as to comprehensively show the anti epidemic actions of all social strata and convey the confidence to overcome the epidemic;Second,compared with the report of SARS,the report of COVID-19 is more flexible and persuasive in the use of rhetorical strategies of quotation,data and metaphor.Third,from the comparison of discourse value,it can be seen that the report on the COVID-19 has more dissemination value,news value and cultural value than the report on the SARS epidemic,better shaping the national image and guiding international public opinion.Through analysis and comparison,this paper puts forward the thinking of discourse strategies to improve the international news communication power of China's mainstream media in the event of sudden public health events,selects diversified themes in the discourse theme,and comprehensively introduces China's experience of anti epidemic;Objectively report negative events and increase the credibility of the media;Form a joint force for thematic agenda setting and systematically report on China's response to the challenge of the epidemic.In terms of discourse content,take into account the macro and micro perspectives,combine "telling by yourself" with "telling by others",tell the story of China's anti epidemic from multiple perspectives,and promote China's concept of global anti epidemic with rich cultural connotation.In terms of discourse communication,we should form a diversified communication subject linked by the central and local media,build a universal Chinese narrative system that does as the Romans do,integrates emotion and reason,improve China's international news communication ability,master the international discourse right in case of sudden public health crisis,and respond to the concerns of the international community.
