Pain is a subjective emotional experience, and everyone has their own feelings and interpretations of pain.Because of the immature abilities of children’s cognition, emotion, language, their description of pain is uncertain. So medical workers are hard to evaluate children’s pain. Therefore,it is necessary to design a suitable pain assessment tool according to characteristics of children.Multi-sensory integration is a concept of multiple senses working together.Compared with the ordinary single-sensory experience,multi-sensory integration can speed up information processing and improve the error tolerance rate of information processing. It is of great significance to inclusive design related to vulnerable groups such the visually impaired and children. Therefore, this article will explore the design of children’s pain assessment tools from the perspective of multiple-sensory integration. The research content of this paper is as follows:First,in the basic research phase of pain assessment tools, the development status and research status of current pain assessment tools used in clinic are sorted out.It also summarizes the problems of such tools that the interactive mode is not child-friendly,the operation mode is not simple enough, and the lack of visual data dynamic tracking.Second,In the research phase of multi-sensory integration theory, the process and methods of multi-sensory integration are analyzed.Features of each sense channel and the promotion effect of dual senses are studied, and from the perspective of dual sensory integration,it analyzes the feasibility of the process of pain assessment in children.Third,in the research phase of children and medical staff.First, analyze the development of children’s various sensory perceptions.Second, the questionnaire research method was used to investigate the image symbol of children’s pain emotion recognition tendency. Finally, the interview method was used to explore the pain points of medical staff in pain assessment, combined with user experience theory,to summarize the information design points of the pain data tracking software interface.Fourth,in the design and practice stage of children’s pain assessment tools from the multi-sensory integrated perspective.First of all,use dynamic pain expressions that change with the touch pressure to solve the current deficiencies in the static assessment of the single visual dimension.Secondly, combined with the developmental characteristics of 3~5-year-old children and the needs of medical staff,a user-friendly software interface for recording pain data is designed; The children’s ergonomics characteristics and their preference for color and image are used to design the appearance. Finally, experiments were carried out on the design to verify its validity and applicability.Through the exploration and practice of children’s pain assessment tools from the perspective of multi-sensory integration, this article makes it easier for children to understand and operate, and at the same time more popular with children;and as an auxiliary communication tool,it also meets the needs of medical workers and other professionals. The needs of personnel to obtain more accurate information on the symptoms of children and to track related visual pain data have shortened the consultation process during follow-up and follow-up visits. It proves the feasibility of multi-sensory integration theory in the field of children’s pain assessment, and also showed a new perspective for pain communication.
