Abstract/Summary:
Mental illness affects 44 million Americans each year, 405,000 in Los Angeles County alone. As an industry, mental health and substance abuse clinics generate $17.2 billion in revenue. In an effort to expand collaborative care and improve mental health parity, the Affordable Care Act developed various initiatives to promote community-based health care, with the inclusion of mental health care. Whittier Lifecare is a proposed not-for-profit community-based mental health resource center. In partnership with various businesses, care providers in the community, and health plans, Whittier Lifecare intends to serve a large Medicaid population with chronic mental health conditions. Our mission is to help eliminate the stigma of mental health and holistically treat the residents of Whittier, California with a variety of mental health services and resources so they may lead productive lives within the community.
