Objective: To understand the state of mental health knowledge and attitudes toward mental illness among community residents,and to explore the main factors affecting community residents' mental health knowledge and attitudes toward mental illness in the community human environment and the corresponding countermeasures.Methods: Questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate 958 community residents in 8 streets in 4 districts of Hangzhou.Descriptive methods were used to analyze mental health knowledge and attitudes toward mental illness.Logistic regression analysis was used to find out the factors influencing mental health knowledge awareness and attitude towards mental illness.The correlation analysis was used to explore the correlation between mental health knowledge awareness and attitude towards mental illness.Results: 1.The reliability and validity of Scales for Mental Health Knowledge and Attitude towards Mental Diseases were good,with Cronbachs alpha coefficient >0.7;KMO values were 0.712 and 0.769 respectively(P<0.001),which were suitable for factor analysis..2.The awareness rate of mental health knowledge among community residents was 74.03%,of which the basic awareness rate was 56.78%,the partial awareness rate was 37.37%,and the low awareness rate was 5.85%;The difference of awareness of mental health knowledge among community residents in the general demographic variables and Life behavior data were statistically significant(P<0.05);Mental health related knowledge is mainly acquired by the community through film,television and Internet channels;266 people(27.66%)have received mental health propaganda materials,309 people(32.25%)have participated in mental/psychological knowledge lectures in knowledge lectures,and 100 people(10.44%)have had psychological counseling experience.The difference of scores of knowledge of residents regarding whether receiving mental health propaganda materials or participating lectures or having psychological counseling on mentalhealth were statistically significant(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that the awareness of mental health-related knowledge in community population was influenced by gender,educational background,occupational and the way of mental health knowledge acquisition.3.The total score of attitude towards mental illness in Hangzhou community population was(38.44+6.965).42.63% of the community population had negative attitudes towards mental patients,30.86% had positive attitudes and 26.51% chose neutral attitudes;There was no statistic significant difference as to attitude toward mental patients in the general demographic data,including gender,age,education level,occupation,and family monthly income(P>0.05);The attitude of community residents towards mental illness was statistically significant in whether their work involved in providing services or treatment for patients with mental illness and whether the acquisition of mental health knowledge through personal life experience and life observation(P<0.05);The attitude score of failure to pass mental health knowledge test was higher than that of pass mental health knowledge test,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that community residents' attitude toward mental illness was affected by family monthly income,degree of contact with mental patients and occupation(P <0.05).4.The level of knowledge about mental health was negatively correlated with the attitude towards mental illness(P < 0.05).Conclusion: The awareness of mental health related knowledge of community residents in Hangzhou is in good,but the proportion of positive attitude towards mental illness is low;The improvement of mental health related knowledge level has little effect on the improvement of attitude towards mental illness among community population.n the future,the government,society,medical institutions,individuals and other aspects should be jointly involved,and efforts should be made to improve the awareness level of mental health-related knowledge of the community population and change the discrimination and negative attitudes of the community population towards mental illness.
