Abstract/Summary:
This study determines the data management changes associated with using only Computer Aided Design models for product definition and procurement, and if it is a viable direction for product development in XYZ, a small defense company.;An Engineering Drawing captures geometric and manufacturing information and operational parameters. If this information could be conveyed without the drawings, eliminating the Engineering Drawing will reduce the time it takes for the product to be procured, reduce the number of items to be managed and remove redundant roles and duties.;Examination of the impact to XYZ shows that the data management changes involved would be immense and could take years to implement. Management must view the change as necessary and be committed to it. Although the technology exists, it may be premature for XYZ, and other small sized project driven companies, to adopt an EDless system.
