With the intense marketing competition and customized needs, manufacturingenterprises are facing unprecedented pressure. They are getting focusing on how to meetdifferent customers’ needs of producing in flexible configurable way. From the end of the20th century, product lifecycle management (Product Lifecycle Management, PLM) hasbeen being paid widely attention and it has made further extension from Product dataManagement (PDM) and made important contribution to the aspects, either respondingrapidly with customer needs or improving product’s general use.Management of product structure and configuration is core of PLM. Product structureseems as a bridge which connects to other application systems and is across businessconcepts and the functions. Product structure management mainly generates different kindsof information in producing procedure and then retrieves information. Configurationmanagement is extended from product management. It provides customers withpersonalized management services to adapt to changes of market demand. The paper basedon PLM theory elaborates design and development of subsystem of product structure andconfiguration management in PLM, and the successful deployment and application inmarine engineering manufacturing enterprises. The main work is as below:Product structure and configuration management system is applied in marineengineering in the enterprise production management. It is based on the PLM theory andrelied on the multiple technologies, such as computer technology, database technology and information technology. The system can improve production management level and abilityto adapt to the changes of market demand. Considering the current situation of productionmanagement in marine engineering manufacturing enterprises, as well as informationmanagement needs, the paper combined with present research results domestically andabroad, explains necessity of the system development.The paper deeply research on the structure of PLM system and core functions throughstructured method to analysis and design. The requirement analysis for system is closedrelating with the applications of production management in marine engineeringmanufacturing enterprise. The requirement analysis includes model analysis towardsproduct structure and configuration management based on PLM, function analysis, usecase analysis as well as use case specification. On the basis of requirement analysis, thepaper gives design overall and functional at beginning, then database design. There is alsoaccurate HIPO design for each function module in detail, including the system of E-Ranalysis and the design of the database table.Product structure and configuration management system successfully applied inmarine engineering manufacturing enterprises after design, develop and test. It provides ascientific, standardized and refined management platform, also improves the productionmanagement level and the ability of adapting to market demand changes.
