With the rapid development of the integrated circuit industry and the rising demand for human material life,high-tech products such as wearable devices and autonomous vehicles have come into our life,all thanks to the development and application of microcontroller unit(MCU).As the core component of these electronic systems,the MCU has attracted the attention of many integrated circuit companies at home and abroad.This paper has conducted in-depth research on the working principle and implementation method of the MCU,and then designed a MCU chip based on 180 nm process.This MCU will eventually be applied to an automotive radar system on chip(SOC).At present,there are many fields involved in integrated circuit design,especially digital integrated circuit design.From front-end code design to logical synthesis to physical design,the time and energy required are extremely huge.Therefore this paper used the IP-based approach for the MCU front-end design.,and used some advanced electronics design automation(EDA)tools to do logic synthesis and physical design of the MCU.First of all,this paper introduces the overall architecture of the MCU,including some basic concepts of the top-level architecture and reduced instruction set computing instruction(RISC)set architecture used in this design.Secondly,adopting the top-down design idea,the verilog hardware description language is used to design the logic function of the bus system,processor core system and peripheral system of the MCU.Then,with the emphasis on the basic concepts and setting methods of design environment and design constraints.In addition,I used Design Compiler tool to synthesize the designed MCU,and get the netlist files and Synopsys design constraints files,both required for subsequent physical design.Finally,the basic flow and design method of the physical design of digital integrated circuits are introduced,including the floorplan and power plan network planning of the overall MCU chip,the basic principles and analysis methods of clock tree synthesis,the classification and function of routing,the purpose of verification and the means to achieve it.With some place and route,verification tools,the physical design of the MCU was completed and it met the requirements of tape-out.
