Since the 21 st century,China's international competitiveness has been continuously enhanced.Among the mainstream news reports of other countries,China has become an indispensable part,and the image of China on the international stage has become more and more eye-catching.Because Western ideology dominantly controls the world's political discourse,China's external communication is at a disadvantage,and the image of China is also being "constructed" by Western mainstream media.Research on the image of China has become one of the important topics in the study of communication in the Mainland since the 21 st century.From the study of the Chinese image research presented by the US media in recent years,there are relatively little research on the Chinese image presented by the authoritative magazines in the United States.This study will take the New Yorker's report on China in the 21 st century(2000-2018)as an example.The paper will discuss the report theme,the structure and the symbolic expression of the New Yorker's coverage of China from macro to micro.On this basis,the Chinese image frame on The New Yorker is summarized.This paper will explore the reasons for the formation of China's image framework.Finally,the external communication of the Chinese image frame would be take into consideration.A good international image is an important part of the country's "soft power." This article explores the construction of the image of China by The New Yorker.It hopes that China will clearly recognize its image of the middle class in the United States and adopt a corresponding external communication policy to improve the unpleasant image and enhance its international status.
