In the background of globalization, national image plays a more important role in international exchanges than ever. The basic task of China's international communication media is to establish a good national image of socialist China in the outside world. Combining international communication with the molding of China's national image, this essay begins with the different China's national images molded by reports of China Daily and the Western media (New York Times and Washington Post) during 2006's NPC and CPPCC, and analyzes the reasons for the differences as well as the achievements and weaknesses of international communication media in China. Then explains the position of China's national image in recent times based on the theory of "Peaceful Rise" and designs the international communication media's aims of constructing national image getting inspiration from the Eleventh Five-Year Plan. It ends with some strategies and means for the international communication media to construct national image, mainly including three aspects: establishing the news value and system of discourse which are accepted internationally, constructing national image by taking the advantage of global media events and boosting the development of international communication by web media. The purpose is to offer some reference in both theoretical and practical sides to China's international communication media for their aims and directions of constructing China's national image during the coming years.
