The rapid rise of China has been acknowledged world widely with its political, economic and military development as the international image of the world’s second-largest economy, military and politic strength. However, the national image construction, an important part of soft strength, also has a lot of problems. The timeliness, interaction and transcendence of network indicate that it is the most effective of improving national image to use network media to construct and communicate national image. National image construction on network media is a systematic procedure, including image construction, image identity, image communication and image maintenance and so on. Through analyzing the component of national image, this thesis tries to clarify the aim of national image construction of network media, that is, the image of democratic and responsible politic power, prosperous and healthy economic power, time-honored and ancient culture, beautiful and harmonious society. This thesis further discusses the principles that should be followed in construction network media national image—the principles of objectivity, consistency, development and reconstruction.Taking the English version of China Daily, People, Xinhua for instance, this thesis researches the section settings, sub-column, contents and functions of website. Based on the existing data of Pew global data applications, Aleax(a website that specialized in publishing the rank of website all over the world), and The Report of Chinese National Image from China’s Communication Research Council, this the sis gets a conclusion that in the construction of Chinese network media national image, the image construction is not incomplete and inaccurate, the image communication is not in place and communication effect is unsatisfactory and so on.Above all, this thesis finds that the national network media image construction should follows the model of “construction – communication- identification” and “communication- identification- construction”, constructed by three paths, which are the positive publicity based on objective image, the interaction based on diplomatic relations and the repair based on critical incident. Finally, in order to implement the national network media image construction smoothly, the safeguard measures will be come up with from the level of management which includes organization and system safeguard, and material which includes technology, talent and funding safeguard.
