Study On Building China's National Image From The Angle Of International Communication

As the globalization continues to develop, the national image becomes more and more important in international contacts. Currently, the basic task of our international communication is to build a major national image of harmonious and peaceful development and responsibility in the world. However, while the information globalization brings a large convenience and free space to us, the unprecedented progress of information communication technologies produces a challenge to national information safety, keeping cultural uniqueness and the speaking right of our country in global communication due to the complication of information control and inequality of traffic flow. Based on such a background, this article is focused on the analysis of building China's national image in the background of globalizing national communication.The first section is focused on discussing the globalization trends and key functions of international communication at the informatization age. Firstly, the concepts of international communication, national soft power and national image are defined, and the globalization trends of international communication and its effects and limitations in building national image are explained. The major effects of international communication in building national image article are pointed out in this article, i.e. enriching the information resources in national communication, far-reaching effects on international relations, and its concern and intervention with international affairs become a drive to produce a certain influence on international relations. Its limitations are mainly the international communication skills incapable of producing absolute validity by laying stress on the significance of international communication for national image building. Magic Bullet Theory, which is early antiquated in the history of Communication, is an example of exaggerating the influences of mass communication. In addition, the factors of international communication can promote the changes of behavior body image only by adopting the cultural images so that they can realize the change of national image. However, the conservation is a nature of culture, which is very difficult to change the structure, and this is also a factor of limiting international communication.The second section is focused on analyzing China's national image and current conditions of international communication development, historical changes of China's national image and its current image. Although China is an ancient country with a civilization of more than five thousand years, its national image had been turned into a stagnant, closed and depraved eastern hell, greatly reduced, and even ignored since China was occupied by foreign countries with their guns and cannons at recent times. The founding of new China made China standing in the world as an independent image and as the most trustworthy friend of eastern large socialist countries and the third world people to promote more national people's support and recognitions to our country, but some countries including USA, etc think that China is an attractive and threatening large country. According to current conditions of China's international communication development, firstly USA and some western countries don't believe China in politics, which can be seen from international political environment of China's international communication, secondly it can be judged as per cultural environment of national communication that Chinese is capable of spending a limited role in regional or international key communication fields like diplomacy, trade, science and technology as well as education, and finally the public in western countries do not have a good understanding of China, and are seriously short of the channels for learning of China. The major defects of China's international communication include: the lack of speaking rights in international communication, i.e. the strong countries good at information communication make the mainstream international media's concerns only limited to the adverse information like wars or turmoil from developing countries; serious inequality of international communication environment caused by the uneven occupation of communication resources in the whole communication environment; the image of any developing country shown in the western media is usually unilateral, incomplete, colored, unpractical and even distorted. The differences in idea and culture have major influences on building national image through international communication including: the leading international communication media make the international community ideology obviously uniform and realize the trends of west idea generalization by controlling the communication contents and modes; the difficulties caused by the differences of cultural background in building our national image through international communication; the limitations caused by the differences of national interests to building national image.The third section is focused on analyzing how to adopt international communication to build China's national image, design ideas and corresponding measures of national image building. According to the orientation of China's national image, as an ancient civilized country in the world, especially after the founding of new China opened a new epoch in the history of China and showed a fully-new China image to the world, all of these formed a historical base for building China's national image. In the background of international communication globalization, the detailed orientation of China's national image should be a large country of peace, development, cooperation and responsibility. Based on this orientation, the following methods are adopted to build China's national image: to build a large country of development in harmony by actively solving the key problems existing at current stage of China, especially hotspots concerned by international society, to make the society foresee the future of China by learning of current changes of China; to build a large country of founding in peace, because the peaceful development of China is an inevitable choice based on its basic national conditions, historical culture traditions and international development tides, which is also a firm strategic object; to build a large country of responsibility, i.e. to make China a firm power to keep the peace of world, and build an image of responsibility capable of promoting the career of human's justice and advancement, facing the global challenge, and protecting the common interests of all the people in the world. By analyzing the above problems, the writer puts forward the strategies and measures of building national image through international communication in this article. The writer provides the following advices in this article: to build correct concepts and ideas, because China's national image can be correctly built only by solving the problems in idea, changing the concepts and realizing the idea improvement to keep up with the international level; to build a international recognized newspaper value concept and speaking system, i.e. China's media opening to outside should build a reliable, trustworthy and friendly media image in the international society based on the criteria of newspaper values so as to provide better services for building a good national image; to build a national image by adopting global media events, i.e. the above media should grasp any similar opportunity to demonstrate our people's image with the unremitting efforts for protecting the safety and unity of our society and realizing the prosperity of our country to the fullest orientation, angle and extent, and show the huge achievements of our reform and opening-up to the world so that we can build a good media image and win more international reputations; to promote the communications of networks and media to outside, i.e. make our overseas readers learn of the events occurring in China and grasp the active speaking rights more rapidly and conveniently via the communication networks to outside; to improve the validity of international communication, i.e. to pay important attention to"hardware"construction of our international communication system and regulate the communication strategies to improve the validity of our international communication. By starting with these five aspects, a certain experiences can be provided for building China's national image through international communication in theory and practice.
