Research On The Urban Communication Thought Of Kevin Lynch

Kevin Lynch is one of the most important theorists in environmental design.He dabbles in almost every aspect of urban design,environmental characteristics and human values,and he is always active in practice.He not only produced many academic works,but also accumulated rich practical experience.He is not only a pioneer in the study of environmental cognition and city image,but also a master of urban design,urban planning and public policy.To some extent,Kevin Lynch's urban theory is like a huge utopian system,with a complete system of values and a distinct system of methods.Different people study from different angles and will come to different conclusions.Kevin Lynch's urban thinking is advanced and restrictive,but it provides a reference for urban communication.In the 1980 s,urban design was introduced into China as a subject,and played a more and more important role in the process of urban construction and development in China.However,in the study of urban communication in China,there are always two problems : the first is the lack of awareness and self-awareness to explore the nature of ontology of the city,rarely put the urban communication activities on the height of human life and existence to treat,understand and interpret.The second is the lack of consciousness and self-consciousness to make a specific,meticulous and in-depth study of the city,no matter the theory or practice rarely focus on ordinary life details and life scenes.Although we want to study urban communication,we donot make meticulous and deep understanding of the city in every aspect.That's where Kevin Lynch inspired us through his city theory.The city is the place which provides the space for people to live,focuses on people,and urban communication also regard the human life existence and the production activity as the most fundamental and the most important principle in the communication.One of the purposes of urban design is to shape the image of the city,to achieve the effect of communication,and to make urban image more vivid in people's memory.By straightening every essence of Kevin Lynch's urban thinking,this paper makes urban designbetter serve for urban communication.All classic works,scenic ideas should be regarded as our common heritage,and we are standing on the basis of previous ideas to explore.So the value of studying Kevin Lynch's urban ideas is to hope that his ideas can go deep into every field of urban communication in our country,so that "urban communication" is no longer an indefinable word,but new ideas,new horizons that can lead to some more valuable of urban communication.
