Youths are the future and hope of a country,and their reading level has a profound influence on a country's soft power.Therefore,under the background of nation wide reading,youth reading has become an increasingly concerned topic for relevant departments and scholars.As an important part of national basic cultural service system,public library plays an important role in reading for youths.In many countries,youth reading is considered one of the most important services in public library services.The youth reading promotion in public libraries in our country started relatively late,and the relevant laws on public libraries in our country are not yet perfect,but with the growth and education of youth.More and more attention has been paid to the topic,and the promotion and development of youth in public libraries in our country has developed very rapidly.More and more parents are beginning to actively use the resources of public libraries to help youth develop their reading interests and expand their knowledge.At present,with the development of nation wide reading in China,the system and form of youth reading promotion are maturing day by day.However,with the development of the new media era,people's information acquisition and reading methods also show the characteristics of mobile and social.New media reading is gradually integrating into the public life,changing the readers' reading behavior and reading habits.It affects the reader's behavior.youth are important to public library service.For example,the influence of new media on youth's reading behavior is self-evident.Therefore,it is very important for public libraries to promote the youth's reading needs in the new media era.This paper first summarizes the present situation of juvenile reading promotion in public libraries in China,and expounds the relevant theories of new media,youth reading and public library reading promotion from the aspects of connotation,characteristics and influence.This paper sums up the mode of reading extension in public libraries.Secondly,according to the new media era of youth reading needs questionnaire survey,this study for junior high school students and senior high school students,respectively to the characteristics of youth reading needs,youth reading content preferences,youth reading promotion of the main preferences.Youths' reading media preference and youth reading promotion form preference were analyzed respectively.Then,on the basis of public libraries' reading extension model,six kinds of reading extension models are combined according to the three elements of reading extension subject,reading promotion medium and reading extension form.And analyze respectively the advantages and disadvantages of each combination.According to the preference of youth reading demand and the preference of youth reading promotion activities,this paper chooses the path suitable for public libraries' reading promotion in the new media era,and designs novel reading promotion activities based on the chosen path.Finally,from the perspective of single subject readuing promotion and multi-subject reading promotion,a series of strategies are put forward to ensure the implementation of the public library youth reading promotion activities.
