The promotion of children's reading is the focus of reading promotion work in various countries. The same is ture in our country. However, when faced to so many books in the market, how to find suitable reading materials has become a difficult problem for children, parents, and teachers. In 2011,China's State Council released"Outline of China's Children Development(2011-2020)",which clearly proposed to"promote a book-grading system for children, provide children of different ages with books suitable for their age,and provide advice and guidance for children's parents to choose books." At present, the domestic research on book grading has achieved certain theoretical and practical results, but the relevant research is too sketchy, relaying mainly on the subjective experience, instead of the quantitative analysis of the text content.China's book grading research still lacks authoritative and effective grading standards, which has limited effect in promotion. This article draws on the results of foreign study on readability and domestic research on graded reading, and tries to predict the difficulty of reading a book by combining qualitative analysis based on genre and subject of books and quantitative analysis based on Chinese characters, words and sentence length. This article tries to provide reference for children, parents, and teachers when selecting Chinese children's books.Firstly, this article summarizes related research on book grading, graded reading and readability and it also introduces related theories of child psychology, children's reading and language education by doing document research.Secondly,by referencing domestic and foreign research results, this article proposes a book grading framework that includes both qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. It also screens the factors that affect the difficulty of books.Thirdly,an empirical study was conducted on the prediction of the difficulty of books, and a multivariate linear regression analysis of SPSS software was used to generate a prediction formula for the difficulty of books, which takes textbooks for compulsory education as the source of samples.Fourthly, this article selects graded books that are already available on the market to test the validity of the book grading framework. The research results show that the Chinese children's books grading framework proposed in this paper can relatively precisely predict the difficulty of reading books. This article also collated graded Chinese characters and words for the prediction of difficulty of reading books in the future. Finally, this article analyzes the prediction effects of book grading, and discusses the value of this study, the existing problems and the direction of improvement. |
