On The Data Literacy Education Developed By Academic Library

The importance of data literacy is self-evident when facing the current E-Science research environment.Data literacy is a must have literacy in the era of large data,including data awareness,data knowledge,data capabilities which we must reach a certain level.This paper believes that the library should bear the basic work of data literacy education as a best subject.In view of that this paper selected 400 universities in the United Kingdom,the United States,Canada and China(ranked by university),we conducted a survey on the situation of data literacy education in the selected university libraries of four countries.This paper summarized and analyzed 68 university libraries which had already carried out data literacy education via survey on their official site.A detailed analysis of several aspect including the teaching service object,content,form,goal and evaluation of the data literacy education was carried out in each of the 68 universities.This paper compares and analyzes the situation of data literacy education in each of the university library,then obtains the best practice analysis of data literacy education in the surveyed countries.In the past the research was all about information literacy education,with little research of data literacy education.However,the information literacy cannot meet the current research requirement for undergraduates,postgraduates and other specialized researcher to deal with the current Data-intensive scientific environment.The breakthrough and innovation of this paper is that it will investigate the various countries of the university library data literacy education advantages and disadvantages and then integrate them,so as to provide reference for the practice and research of data literacy education in Chinese university libraries.So that the data literacy education of university library in our country can be improved and perfected in both the quantity and the form richness,to which can we face the increasing situation of the importance of data acknowledge and utilizing in the era of large data.
