Study On Construction And Services Of University Institutional Repository Union

In 1990s,the Open Access began to arise."Open Access" means that website users can search,read,copy,download and print literature for free,or some other legitimate use of the operation.Institutional Repository is a new emerge concept which is based on sharing the institutional knowledge asset.It belongs to the system services.Institutional Repository,Open Access Journals and Subject Repository are three essential branches of Open Access Movements.Among this three,the Institutional Repository develops the fastest.The upsurge of Institutional Repository is closely connected with Open Access Movements.Institutional Repository is mainly used for collecting and saving scientific research of institutional digital information.Besides,it offers free access services about the saved information of the institutional repository both to inside and outside members of the institutions.Institutional Repository has developed for ten years since it is been brought up.Chinese scholars have worked on the Institutional Repository and it becomes to be one of the research hot spots among Library and Information Science.At the same time,many scholars and experts in China began to analyze and illustrate it from different angles.The example of abroad institutional repository has showed that it is very important for technology development.However,most of the research literature in China remain on the theoretical level and not based on practice.It is because Chinese research on the Institutional Repository started late.Nevertheless,some paper written from theoretical level provide the foundation for development of Institutional Repository.And it plays significant role for future development.This paper shows some shortages of Institutional Repository as a platform to share and use research information by studying present situation of Institutional Repository in domestic universities.I believe that it is needed more efforts on Institutional Repository in order to offer better services for scientific research.For solving the limitations of Institutional Repository,We should to investigate the status of the construction of university Institutional Repository at home and abroad.And borrowing experience from them.Enhancing the management and maintenance of University Institutional Repository in our country.Moreover,improving the development of University Institutional Repository and strengthening the study on construction and services of University Institutional Repository Union.This dissertation is divided into six chapters.The first chapter is the introduction on research background,goals and meaning of Institutional Repository.And it also includes the research methods,ideas and innovations for the Institutional Repository.The second chapter is about concept of Institutional Repository Union.This chapter includes two parts.The first part explains the concept,features,functions,effect and limitations of Institutional Repository.The second part shows the concept,patterns and the meaning of Institutional Repository Union.The third chapter analyzes the present situation of University Institutional Repository Union.Mainly,I do research on 985 Project and found current situation of 39 universities which have established Institutional Repository.It includes document types that saved in universities'institutional repository,ways to search,browse modes and service functions,and whether it is available to read through the whole document.The fourth chapter is about the platform design of University Institutional Repository Union from six aspects.The fifth chapter offers the description on instruction manual taken Nanjing University Institutional Repository as an example.It gives services functions and construction strategies for University Institutional Repository Union.The last chapter shows research limitations and expectations.It makes conclusions and expectations about this dissertation for future research.
