Institutional repository is a kind of digital resource database established by academic research institutions in order to preserve academic achievements,which has remained attention at home and abroad widely.As the main body of institutional repositories,universities and colleges lead the number of institutional repositories have greatly raised that based electronic libraries in Japan.Therefore it got attentions and discussion.This paper analyze the development stage of institutional repositories in two countries horizontally,compares the present situations that based on OpenDOAR vertically,and list examples to compare.On this basis,the writer summarizes from the comparison of institutional repositories in China and Japan,and give enlightenment:pay attention to propaganda work,maximize the resources openness,promote the improvement of policy,promote humanistic service,build landmarks of institutional repository,accelerate development of institutional repositories network.
