Study On The Construction Effect Of People's Daily (Overseas Edition) On National Image Of China

China is a rising big country,Chinese "silhouette" is very active in international affairs.The international community has been greatly impressed by China's splendid culture,economic development,reform and opening up,innovation and change and other aspects.But the "shadow" inevitably exists in its "growth" process,which is often misunderstood and over-read by some countries.The reality status faced with the Chinese national image with different sides,it is imperative for China to shape its own image by using various ways.Mass media is the most effective tool to construct the national image and plays the irreplaceable role.As one of Chinese external communication medias,People's Daily(Overseas Edition)undertakes the important role of constructing the national image.This newspaper is issued in domestic and foreign countries,it covers more than 80 countries and regions with wide audiences,which is the window for overseas audiences to understand and approve China.This paper uses content analysis method,case study method and other related study methods to conduct system sampling on the annual reports of important news edition of People's Daily(Overseas Edition)in 2014,it conducts analysis on the five indexes of report source,report content,report tendency,report area,news photos from the extracted samples;it investigates the Chinese national image from all the aspects of political,economic,cultural and social life;it finds that the newspaper uses the speeches in the front page to contest international discourse right,figure report and valuable content report is the strategy to construct Chinese national image;while the newspaper has some problems in constructing Chinese national image,such as lacking of civilian perspective,"being not interested" in some certain domains' issues,ignoring the accept custom of foreign audience,then it puts forward the related suggestions on these problems.Meanwhile,the successful strategies and shortcomings of People's Daily(Overseas Edition)in constructing Chinese national image also provides the useful reference for overseas Chinese medias' external communication in constructing Chinese national image.
