Sino-Japanese relations have always been a sensitive and complicated field in China’s diplomatic relations. Reports in the media about Sino-Japanese relations also have been the object of attention. Mass media plays an important role in today’s international relations: often affects the process of international relations. In order to safeguard the national interest, create a good image of the country and occupy a favorable position in the public opinion war of Sino-Japanese relations, our reports about Japan should not only have an impact on domestic audiences but also international audiences to win the support of international public opinion. So, it is particularly important to strengthen the implementation of external communication’s strategy.People’s Daily Overseas Edition, as an important media in China’s external communication, has a strong representation. Based on the news frame theory, the essay shows the characteristic of reports about Sino-Japanese relations, summarizes the image of Japan which constructed by reports about Sino-Japanese relations and then explores the framing mechanism of Japan’s image by using text analysis of People’s Daily Overseas Edition’s reports about Sino-Japanese relations from 2004 to 2013. Meanwhile, it also points out problems of reports about Sino-Japanese relations and finds some solutions to improve the communication’s effect of reports about Sino-Japanese relations.
