In recent years,the prosperity of Irish literature has been well known to the world,and researches on Irish literature are increasing.The literary brochure,New Writing from Ireland published by the Irish Literary Exchange,is playing an increasingly important role in promoting the Irish literature.In addition,researches on vocative texts based on text typology have been widely accepted.Moreover,the study on translation practice of vocative texts from the perspective of communicative translation theory is also an important direction of research.In view of the guiding significance of communicative translation theory to the translation practice of vocative text,the typicality of New Writing from Ireland as a book brochure and its great international influence,this paper believes that based on the latest corpus and cutting-edge researches,to explore effective methods to translate brochures are increasingly important.Guided by the theory of communicative translation,this paper taking the New Writing from Ireland 2017 as the research object,adopting the method of comparative analysis and case study,discusses the guiding principles and translation skills in translation of book brochures in hope of providing some references for the translation of literature brochure or descriptive research on translation of book brochure.This paper finds that functions and text type play a dominant or even decisive role in the choice of translation strategy.At the same time,purposes and readers of the translation also have an important influence on the choice of translation principles and strategies.Under the guidance of Newmark's text typology theory,this thesis found that this brochure shows evident features of vocative text.It conveys information smoothlyand successfully and realizes the function of inducing readers.Therefore,translators should follow function-oriented and reader-centered principles in the whole process of translation.Under the guidance of these two principles,this paper classifies the text into three parts: title,introductions of works and introductions of authors,according to the content and characteristics of the text.For the translation of title,literal translation,free translation can be adopted or translators can combine the two methods together if it is needed;for the translation of introductions of works,literal translation,free translation,addition,omission and rewriting can be applied to maximize the vocative function of the text;For the translation of the introductions to authors,under the premise of respecting the objectivity of the information,translators can use omission,addition or adjust the order of the words and sentences to realize the vocative function of the text.The author hopes that the research on this translation practice can provide some help for the translation of Irish literature works and the descriptive research on it.
