A Report On C-E Translation Of The Brochure Outline Of Construction Projects Aided By Hong Kong And Macao Of Miangyang City

This practice report is based on the Chinese-English translation of The Brochure Outline of Construction Projects Aided by Hong Kong and Macao(hereinafter referred as The Brochure Outline).This translation project was commissioned by the Foreign Affairs Office of Mianyang when the author was an intern there.In 2008,the Wenchuan Earhquake caused heavy losses to Mianyang.In the past 10 years,the post-disaster reconstruction of Mianyang has made great achievements with the support from all over the world.The Brochure Outline mainly introduces the construction projects aided by Hong Kong and Macao in Mianyang.The purpose of the translation of The Brochure Outline is to show the world the great achievements made in the disaster areas,and also to show the world the friendship between Mianyang people and the people from Hong Kong and Macao.The Brochure Outline consists of 15,346 words,which belongs to the foreign publicity text.It introduces multiple fields of projects,such as education,sports,medical,construction and other fields.The Brochure Outline features a large quantity of numbers and terminologies on the lexical level,non-subject sentences on the syntactical level,and theme coherence on the textual level.The author completes the translation project under the guidance of Skopos Theory.The three rules of Skopos Theory are strictly observed in the translation of The Brochure Outline,namely,the Skopos Rule,the Coherence Rule and the Fidelity Rule.To realize the translation purpose,all necessary translation methods are taken,such as liberal translation,amplification,omission,structure adjustment,conversion,literal translation and annotation.The translation of international publicity text as The Brochure Outline should be formal and objective,with all the implied meaning explicitly conveyed in the translation.The translation project is completed on time and meets the requirement of the client,who gives a good evaluation on the translation.From this translation practice,the author learns the application of Skopos Theory to translation of international publicity text,and enhances her ability in translation practice.
