A Report On The E-C Translation Of MUSTANG FIFTY YEARS

Ford Mustang,a classic car,plays an important role in the history of American automobile development.This thesis focuses on the translation of the fourth and fifth chapters of MUSTANG FIFTY YEARS.Under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory,the text types are determined and different translation strategies and methods are applied comprehensively to faithfully convey the original information.In addition,efforts are made to improve the readability of the translation text,so that the original communicative purpose can be achieved to establish a good brand image of Ford Mustang among Chinese readers.This paper chooses some typical words,sentences and paragraphs to analyze the specific translation strategies and methods used under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory.In terms of title translation,it mainly uses three methods: supplementary information,focus conversion and general comment.In terms of vocabulary translation,the meanings of technical terms,proper nouns and abbreviations are better conveyed to the reader by using the methods of transliteration,free translation,literal translation and zero translation.In the aspect of sentence translation,sequence translation and reverse translation are mainly used for long sentences,while active translation is mostly used for passive sentences.For paragraph translation,three translation techniques are mainly used: supplement,deletion and conversion.The communicative translation theory plays a very important role in guiding the translation of titles,vocabularies,sentences and paragraphs.Also,this theory has greatly improved the quality of the translation.
