Environmental Design Of New Living Space For Dementia Elder

With the increasing in the proportion of aging and the increasing global population,the dementia elder has become a huge group of people,and the way of old-age care for the dementia elder has become a worldwide topic of concern.At present,the elders in China are mainly cared at home,and when the disease continues to deteriorate,the elderly began to have the cognitive impairment,loss of self-care ability,this is the time when the family will be overloaded,the quality of the elderly life will be decreasing,and would impose a heavy burden on the family and society.Through the comprehensive analysis of the behavior characteristics,physiological characteristics and psychological needs of the dementia elder,the environmental characteristics of the old-age care for the dementia elder were analyzed.This paper analyzed and studied the design theory of the environment for the old-age care and rehabilitation of the dementia elder both at home and abroad,and summarized the theory and method of the old-age care environmental design for the dementia elder with examples,and a systematic theory of the old-age care environmental design for the dementia elder.Taking the practical design of the nursing home for the dementia elder in Luquan District of Shijiazhuang City as an example,this paper carried on the concrete design practice.And through the research process of theory and practice,the following conclusions are obtained:1.The design of old-age care environment for the dementia elder should be based on the establishment of an environment which is conducive to the emotional recovery for them.2.According to the health status of the dementia elder,3 kinds of environmental design patterns can be designed,namely self-care type,middle care type and assistant type.According to different types,the corresponding design objectives and design techniques were established to create an ideal environment for the dementia elder.3.The design of the nursing home for the dementia elder in Luquan District of Shijiazhuang City is based on the local characteristics and nostalgic design to meet the need of old-age care and rehabilitation for them,forming a new design idea and a systematic design scheme.The dementia elder not only need a safe and comfortable environment,but also need a free and dignified life.In the park,the real social environment is simulated,and the dementia elder are free to act in the park like normal people.The decision of the dementia elder will be respected in order to lead the elderly to live their own life.From the perspective of layout planning,living space needs,environment construction,sensory stimulation,nostalgia therapy,the emotional memories were intergrated into the design,helping the dementia elderly to achieve independence,helping them to return to society,and creating a comfortable and dignified life for the elderly with dementia.
