Research And Design Of Outdoor Activity Space Of Domestic Large-scale Elderly Care For Dementia

Dementia is a series of syndromes characterized by impairment of memory and cognitive function caused by brain diseases,the clinical manifestations including cognitive disfunction,abnormal mental behavior and continuous decline in daily living ability.There are currently no effective treatments,but spatial environment intervention has a positive impact on patients' mentality and behavior,it is one of the most effective means to delay the deterioration of dementia.Since the 1990 s,The health performance of nature has been proved by various researches and developed into relatively mature healing gardens.The therapeutic functions generated by contact with natural elements has irreplaceable curative effect by other therapeutic means,which has become the frontier direction of outdoor activity space design of the elderly care for dementia.Based on the latest evidence-based research results of the design of the rehabilitation garden for the elderly with dementia,and combined with the investigation and evaluation of practical cases,this paper attempts to discuss how to provide the design of therapeutic outdoor activity space for the large care unit for the elderly with dementia in China,so as to promote the elderly to live with dignity and high quality of life.The main research contents include the following aspects:1)Basic Research: Collect domestic and abroad relevant literatures systematically,summarize the latest evidence-based research results,analyze the typical successful cases and summarize the basic theories and design principles of the outdoor activity space of the elderly care for dementia,so as to provide the basis orders for the follow-up research.2)Field Research : Select a domestic typical dementia elderly care institution—Home for the Aged Guangzhou as the research site,introduce the assessment tool TESS-NH and AGAT to explore the potential needs of the elderly dementia for outdoor activity space in combination with the results of basic research,provide the basis orfer for design strategy.3)Cases in Practice:Based on the above research results,integrate the outdoor activity space design strategy combining with the health performance of nature.According to the current situation of the outdoor space,the paper proposes a targeted renovation design scheme,which provides a solution for the outdoor activity space to improve the living quality of the elderly dementia from different aspects,such as the entrance and the porch,the lighting and shading design,the path and seats,plants,waterscape,landmarks and barrier-free toilet.With the rapid growth of the population of the elderly dementia in China,the demand for professional design of the elderly care for dementia is increasing day by day.Based on the extensive collection of domestic and abroad evidence-based research results,the author investigate the present situation of indoor and outdoor environment of the typical elderly care for dementia.Combine with the existing problems in Home for the Aged Guangzhou,this paper puts forward the design strategy of outdoor activity space transformation.As the scheme has not yet been put into practice,the effectiveness of its results still needs to be further evaluated.However,the solutions proposed is based on a large number of field researchs,have a reference value for improving the design of the therapeutic environment of the domestic typical elderly care for dementia.It is also a positive exploration for the professional development of the outdoor activity space design of the elderly care for dementia in China.
