The use of the signal simulator for radar equipment debugging is an inevitable trend during the radar design. The save-to-send simulator of radar targets in this paper is mainly used for echo simulation of shell targets and is a great convenience for the debugging of the MIMO radar. The traditional radar performance debugging must be carried out in the field of real environment, which causes great difficulties for the development of radar.First, the shells for the experiment are expensive, and also need specialized personnel to operate.Second, the transportation of experimental equipment requires a lot of manpower.Above all,the save-to-send simulator of radar targets is a good solution to this problem. The research about the save-to-send simulator of radar targets in this paper focuses on the radar signal acquisition, target information loading and output of echo. The modular design method is adopted in the system which ensures the flexible and operation. The design and implementation of the simulator of MIMO radar is mainly divided into the following stages. The first stage is the analysis of shell target echo model, establishing the task requirements and performance indicators. The second stage, design scheme of signal processing and use MATLAB to simulate. The third stage, design the hardware platform, including three parts, chip selection, chip configuration, schematic introduction. Then program all the software modules, including Verilog HDL design of FPGA signal processing part and C language program of the embedded PowerPC part.In the final stage, load software into hardware platform and debug the system and finally verify the save-to-send simulator of radar targets meets the expected requirements.
