With the rapid development and inter-syncretize of VLSI, computer and communication, video surveillance technology has become embedded system based on web server from analog system in the past. Today, embedded web digital camera takes a very important place in the video surveillance system. This thesis mainly dicusses the design and implement of embedded web digital camera based on SOPC (System on Programmable Chip) technology.Firstly, this thesis introduces the background of the video surveillance system. Some successful schemes of embedded web digital camera are analysed and compared to propose a basic structure of embedded web digital camera, which is a feasible scheme based on SOPC.Secondly, three main parts are expounded in details, including hardware design, SOPC design and software driver design. In the hardware design, the most important chip is a FPGA chip--Virtex-IIPro30, which control image sensor, USB communication chip, PHY device of LAN and memory chips. There are two subsystems in the SOPC based on FPGA, one is main processor (PPC) subsystem, another is image sensor (Sensor) subsystem. In the PPC subsystem, multiple IP cores are connected by the IBM CoreConnect bus architecture and the embedded PowerPC405 processor hardcore is the controlling center. In the Sensor subsystem, image sensor LM9617 is the object and the video data are captured and stored by it.These two subsystems are connected by some interface modules. The software of PowerPC405 includes hardware driver, embedded RTOS——NORTi 4 and application programme.Thirdly, system test and operating results are introduced. It has shown the embedded web digital camera scheme based on SOPC is correct and feasible. There are lots of illustrations in this paper which make the system architecture, IP core structure and software flow easy to be understood.The thesis has some original points and the result provides some experience and technical guidance to other embedded system design.
