Near Range Target Detection Radar (NRTDR) is an important part of active defense system in modern battlefield environment. As a key step for developing and debugging NRTDR, the research and design for the NRTDR simulator is very important. It can efficiently and easily test the performance of NRTDR, shorten development cycle and reduce cost. This dissertation mainly studied the design and implementation of the NRTDR simulator and the major work includes:First, the radar target echo model and simulation principles of magnitude, distance and speed of the target are introduced. Four high-speed motion models including uniform motion, uniform accelerated motion,40mm rocket and the Chinese Red Arrow 8 anti-tank missile are given. Clutter simulation technology is analyzed and simulated.Second, a new idea and scheme for designing the NRTDR simulator is proposed and a simulation algorithm for the near range target is also given. The NRTDR simulator consists of six parts, including the baseband data sample and storage section, analog echo DAC, target information calculation and storage section, control/timing module, data update interation module, Doppler/amplitude modulation and delay part. The DAC, ADC, FPGA chips involved in the system are selected and designed. Then, EDK (Embedded Development Kit) for the design and development of PowerPC405 embedded processor system based on FPGA is introduced. Its hardware and software design flows are discussed. By EDK, the hardware platform of target information calculation and storage section in the system is built, the NRTDR simulator's software design is also completed. Finally, the hardware design for the NRTDR simulator is completed. Each hardware module is realized, as well as the hardware timing simulation is completed by modelsim software. The total hardware module design is verified to meet the total system requirements.
