Objective: To explore the dimensions of media literacy,and to compile the media literacy scale for urban middle school students.Methods: This study was conducted on 996 students from seventh grade to ninth grade by literature review,expert assessment and predictive questionnaires.At the same time,the paper investigates the situation of media literacy of urban middle school students and explores the factors that affect the media literacy of urban middle school students.Results:1.Media Literacy Scale includes media communication ethics,media technology interaction,media personal safety,media property security,media culture criticism,media view interaction and media learning literacy.EFA and CFA found that the structural validity is good.The Cronbach's Alpha of the total scale was 0.876,and the range of Cronbach's Alpha was0.766 to 0.833,which showed that the internal consistency of the subscale was good.The total scale reliability index is 0.736,indicating that the content of the scale has certain homology.2.The survey shows that among the 996 junior high school students,the most commonly used media are: mobile phone,computer,television,other newspapers,broadcasting,the percentage is73.2%,14.7%,5.9 %,2.8%,2.7%,0.7%.There was a significant positive correlation between the media literacy scores and the time of reading newspapers(p <0.01),but the relationship between TV time and internet time was not significant.3.In addition to media view interaction,media learning literacy,there are significant gender differences in scores of media literacy,media communication ethics,media technology interaction,media personal safety,media property security,media culture criticism.In these dimensions,girls have the higher scores than boys.4.Different grade of junior high school students in media communication ethics,media property safety significant difference on the score,scores of media literacy,media technology interaction,media personal safety,media culture criticism of score difference was not significant.Further,we found that the junior middle school students,grade eight multiple comparison of media communication ethics score significantly higher than that of junior middle school students in grade nine,grade seven media personal safety score is significantly higher than the eighth grade,ninth grade of junior middle school students,the eighth grade and junior high school students in grade nine on the media property safety score was significantly lower than seventh grade junior high school students.5.The difference of the score of media technology interaction among junior high school students with fathers different educational backgrounds is significant.There are no significant differences in scores of media literacy,media communication ethics,media personal safety,media property security,media view interaction,media learning literacy and media culture criticism.6.There are significant differences in scores of media literacy,media communication ethics,media technology interaction and media view interaction among the mothers with different educational backgrounds.But the difference of score of media personal safety,media property security,media learning literacy and media culture criticism is not significant.Further multiple comparisons found that mothers ' junior middle school students had significantly lower scores on media communication ethics than mothers ' with a bachelor degree or above.Mothers with primary school education had lower scores of media technology interaction than mothers with junior high school education,mothers with high school education,and mothers with a bachelor degree or above.
