Our living space is flooded with mass communication media, which makes an important environment for the socialization of adolescent. Although it is often alienated and rejected in schools, mass communication media is very popular among students, who often indulge themselves in mass media blindly. Based on an investigation, the current situation and components of media literacy of junior middle school students is analyzed in this paper, which tries to explore the theory and practice of media literacy education for junior middle school students in China.The paper falls to five parts. In the first part, the background of this research is analyzed by summarizing the current situation of media literacy education both at home and abroad, the definition of media, media literacy, and media literacy education is given, what's more, the procedure, method, goal and significance of this research are also pointed out. The second part concerns the investigation and analysis of the current situation of media literacy of junior middle school students in Anhui Province. The third part is devoted to research on the composition of media literacy of junior middle school students, the theoretical bases, content and levels, the curriculum design of media literacy education for junior middle school students. In the fourth part, the classroom teaching situation of media literacy education practiced in Grade One and Grade Two in Linquan No.1 middle school, Anhui Province, is discussed, based on which, effective methods of classroom instruction of media literacy education for junior middle school students are summarized and concluded.The conclusion of this research and suggestion for the subsequent study is given in the last part. This research is innovative in the definition of composition of media literacy of junior middle school students, and the activity system of media literacy education, which is also examined in practice.
