The Construction Situation And Development Strategy Of Self-service Library In China

The sixth plenary session of the 17 th Communist Party of China(CPC)Central Committee has clearly put forward the strategic target of building a culturally strong country and reached a high tide of developing socialist culture.With the development of economy and the raising of the living standard,the construction of public cultural service system has gradual become the national behavior.As an major place of Public cultural service.The Public Library play a great role in preserving human cultural heritage,transmitting culture information resources and carry forward advanced socialist culture etc.And self-service library,as a new form of public library's function extension and service innovation is a perfect fusion of humanization,digitization and intelligent with traditional library.It's helpful for improving Civic Literacy,promoting civil reading,establishing and improving the construction of modern public cultural service system.And plays a significant role in building a culturally strong country at the same time.Self-service library emerged later in our country,the construction is much more different between each province and it is immature now.So it's necessary to grasp the development situation of its construction to find out the problem existing in the construction and use and then propose the corresponding countermeasures.Since the self-service library construction began in 2007.It radiate to 29 provinces(municipalities)through the country from Shenzhen and Dongguan,covers 71 cities and achieving a basic full coverage of the whole country.On the basis of extensive research of self-service library's construction status in our country.This paper analyzes the problems existing in the construction of self-service library and with the help of successful experiences from other countries,puts forward some related proposals.The main research work includes: Firstly,an extensive inquisition has been carried on to self-service library situation which include the quantity,geographical distribution,the site,document resources and readers' comments by using document investigation,web investigation and social investigation methods.Secondly,the self-service library achievements and abuses are analyzed according to the result of survey.Thirdly,construction countermeasures of self-service library for its problems are proposed from borrowing successful experiences abroad.The construction of self-service library has obtained good achievements in our country.However,there are still deficiencies in the areas distribution,site selection,promotion,functional services and document resources.To solving these existing problems,the paper puts forward some suggestions to improve the self-service library's development.Suggestions are as follow: optimize site selection of self-service library,promote the development and sharing of library resources and improve investment strategy.
