DSP (Digital Signal Processing) devices in free-space optical communication system are playing an important role because of its powerful peripherals management capacity and very low energy consumption. But the space environment is very harsh. There are a large number of particles in optical communications satellites’ orbits, which pose great threats to steady work of DSP devices. The primary reason of satellite fails is single event effects. This paper studies the theory, simulation and simulation experiment research on the ground based on the single event effects of DSP device. The main contents of the paper are are given as follows:analyze space environment of space optical communication and effects of radiation on devices. Considering the study of current DSP device charge-collecting mechanism of single particle is not sufficient, a mechanism of charge collection of MOS devices is established in terms of the funnel-model and DSP manufacturing technique, and the critical energy of single event effects is calculated as well. The simulation calculation on Cf source which often used in simulation radiation experiments on ground is conducted by SRIM software, and the relationship between flux and energy is obtained. Ground simulation experiments of single event effects of DSP processor is established in use of Cf source.Finallly, single event upset cross-sections, the relationship between the distance of chip from the Cf source and numbers of SEU and single event upset frequency of 16 storage units in each address are obtained by means of the analysis of large amounts of statistical data. The ground simulation experiment for single event effects of high-performance DSP was conducted by the use of Cf source. The ground radiation simulation experiment in this paper based on Cf source and SMJ320F2812 digital signal processors provides ideas for low-cost ground radiation experiments of other devices. Experimental results also provide guidance for single event effects of space optical communication satellites.
