A Comparative Study Of Web Impact Between U.K., U.S.,China And India Of Institutional Repositories

Objective:Institutional Repository(IR) is a database,University and Research Institution usually use its academic resources by Internet to collecting,saving,managing and indexing.IR has rich resources in academic research and there are varied born-digital content:journal article,conference paper, monograph,dissertation,technical report.In this paper,the writer attempts to analyzes the present status of IR in China,the gap between China and other countries,and some burning questions by compares the web influence of IR in developed country with developing country to puts forward some valuable suggestions and improves the quality of IR in China.Methods:This study chose America, Britain,China and India as the research objects,because America and Britain are the two countries who have the largest IR in developed country, China and India are two typical countries of developed country.Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) was used to detect indexes to score each IR based on the weights of indexes. The indexes were the scale of website, article volume, display property, outside the chain,web impact factor, link effect, MozRank and Followed Linking Root Domains.Results:According to the index weight,gets the score of each IR.The IR which gets the highest score is from United States,named PubMed Central.The best IR in China is HKU Scholars Hub,it ranked as the 86 th.Comprehensive ranking shows that America scores the highest,then followed by England, China and India.Conclusion:The IR of China has a lower-comprehensive ranking in the world,not only falls behind developed countries,such as USA or UK,but also gets a lower ranking than India.There are several reasons for this results: lack of awareness of knowledge sharing,Intellectual Property Law is not complete,short of national IR guidance institutions.We need to improve the quality of IR in our country from above aspects.
