The performance evaluation of university library has been the emphase of library science in recent years.Many scholars put forward the guiding method that how to construct the performance evaluation system of university library.Balanced Scorecard, as a mainstream method of performance evaluation, is respected by many scholars, and the practical experience has been obtained. This paper combines the performance evaluation of university library with the framework of the Six Sigma scorecard. Attempt to build a new performance evaluation model based on the Six Sigma scorecard, and provide a new idea for the construction of the performance evaluation system of university library.Through comparing the Six Sigma Scorecard with the Balanced Scorecard, we can find that Six Sigma Scorecard not only constructs a more comprehensive evaluation system, but also provides a performance evaluation method. According to the characteristics of the Six Sigma Scorecard and the demand of the modern university library performance evaluation, it is feasible to construct the performance evaluation system of University Library by Six Sigma Scorecard. But none of the performance evaluation systems can be fully applied in all organizations. So it is necessary to reform the basic framework of the Six Sigma Scorecard to make it adapt to the university library.In order to confirm the applicability of the Six Sigma Scorecard in university libraries, we take the reference consulting department in library of Zhengzhou University as an example. According to the performance evaluation framework of university library, which is based on the Six Sigma Scorecard, the corresponding indexes are selected for the work characteristics of the reference department, and determine the criteria of evaluation. Then using the expert scoring method and analytic hierarchy process to determine the weight of the index. Two kinds of questionnaire are used to collect qualitative indicators according to the users and the reference librarian. Through the data, the results of the performance evaluation of the reference department of Zhengzhou University will be obtained. It is feasible to apply the Six Sigma scorecard to the performance evaluation of university library, and the research has a larger development space.
