Revolution Of News Dissemination In Context Of Big Data

Data journalism, the revolutionary methods for journalism facing the big data era, has its own unique and novel value for studying. The current study took the concept of big data and data journalism as gateway and introduced the revolution of news dissemination concept and news practice. In the mean time, looking back of this big data fever, this study tried to discuss shortcomings of news practice using data more often.The current study mainly discovered following findings: First, this study defined the concept of data journalism with the broadest range. Second, this study believed that the journalism has been through “Quantitative turn” twice and the current Quantitative turn caused by big data is changing the media atmosphere and data source, therefore, the environment of journalism is changing. Meanwhile, the media operation is changing too because of the change of journalism as the core. The audience goes segmenting and the media operation scope goes broader. Third, the data journalism brought the novel broadcasting and reporting patterns. Alongside, the supporting and restricting aspects of data journalism were discussed in this paper as well. Last, this paper discussed the negative impacts on the journalism cased by using data more often from three aspects, which are “the misleading of accuracy”, “misunderstanding of data”, and “the possible monopolistic news organization based on the limited access of data”.
