The research on intelligent robot has a long history, and early intelligent robots only were applicated in aerospace field. With the progress of sensing technology and the control algorithm, intelligent robot has been used in military, industrial control, medical and household life and other fields. Intelligent robot has the faster speed, lower cost and higher safety index than manual operation. Intelligent car is a typical representative of the robot, and it mainly uses navigation technology, communication technology and artificial intelligence technology, which is a complex of high and new technology. Intelligent car has a small volume, low power consumption, good reliability, simple operation etc..The special design is applied to the intelligent car, which can realize specific functions. The infrared sensors, image acquisition sensor, gas sensor can be loaded into the intelligent car. It can take the place of human to complete the collection of toxic or harmful gases, demining task of the military operations, and it can complete precision operation instead of a doctor, etc.Paper designs and implements a intelligent car system based on FPGA and SIM908 module. The design builds a NIOS processor which consists of NIOSⅡ CPU, memory, the timer, Avalon bus, UARTs. The processor receives GPS data of SIM908 module, analyses and processes data of control instructions, calculates out the control parameters for the motor drive module and drives the intelligent car along a given path through the control circuit builded in the Quartus software. The system uses hardware and software codesign technology. GPS data and control instructions are parsed by software, but the driver and adjustment of motor are implemented by the logic circuit. Car finally can complete GPS positioning and go along the given path under the control of instructions.
