The arrival of information society, has bought the opportunity that the information technology develops at full speed in the whole word. The application of the technology of the computer and personal PC has caused the enormous changes of the modes of production, life style and concept of people. The great one has pushed forward the advance of development of the human society and human civilization.However, people while enjoy enormous benefit that the information system brings, face information safe severe test too. Because the security of information is not only concern the personal secret, but also even concern the security and interests of the country, So ensuring the security of the information system has received more and more persons' attention and becomes an important subject.The research of the hard disk encrypting device is in order to ensure the security of computer users'information. This paper introduce IDE hard disk interface operation principle, protocol, read & write time seqnence and DES encrypt algorithms, especially analysed the security of the algorithm. Summing up, this paper has mainly carried on the research work shows as follwing:(1) On the foundation of the theoretical research, i proposed the design of the hard disk encrypting device as a whole. And emulated and analysed the design component.(2) Finished the interface design of the hard disk encrypting device, made it satisfyed the time seqnence of IDE-interface and in /export request of the DES module.(3) Realized DES algorithm with the FPGA chip.
