| National day anniversary has become of increased interest to global media for arousing sense of national pride and inspiring strong loyalty. For decades, the Cross-Strait relation changes from time to time and thus influences news production on both sides of the strait. This study tried to make clear whether or not reporters choose and organize different news frames to express their opinion. And if there exist some differences, what could cause these dissimilarities?This study selected the representative newspaper Central Daily News, China Times and Liberty Times in Taiwan on National Day of 377 manuscripts from 1949 to 2013 for the sample. Through content analysis and text analysis of the articles, the research summarized the tendencies of media frame on National Day during sixty years, and analyzed the specific social and historical reasons.From a historical perspective, in the days of Martial-Law, these news that came from Central News Agency were printed in a text-only format in the front page. In the reports of the genre, news is priority, and for report tone, the media showed obvious negative attitude.The research also shows that the quantity of publishing news have been increasing since Martial-Law was lifted. Diversified resources of news with more photos were printed in the mainland’s page, and the bias had been weaken and the opinions became more neutral and positive, and the titles and themes were changed with different frameworks in each period of history. In addition, newspapers that of different ownership also had various frames.Central Daily News and Liberty Times showed negative opinions while China Times were partial positive attitude.Then the study discussed the causes for the above-mentioned changes under the social context.Finally, the study analyzed the impact of the news on the relations of cross-strait,and discussed the possibility of mass media in playing a role in the development of cross-strait relation. |
