| It is from June 1996 that TV live report in the true sense came into being in China. Generally speaking, the nowadays TV live broadcast is more often used in the covering of sudden events and urgent activities of which the examples are Hong Kong's return, the total solar eclipse observation in Mohe Heilongjiang Province, the Yangtze gorges dam folding celebration, the 1998 flood rescue, the three gorges project on the Yangtze River, the 1998 gulf crisis, the national football league and Macao's return, etc. Indeed, for the audience who cannot experience the thing personally TV live report can give them a feeling of being on the spot. This thesis summarizes the Xinhua news agency report of National Day (from zero to 10 o'clock a.m. on October 1 because later the public signals were used) as a case by means of literature review, framing analysis and samples categorizing. Besides, it incorporates the methods of identifying media frame employed in former studies and analyses different frames in order to offer a better interpretation of the sample. The key issues this paper intends to explore are: Which frames did Xinhua news agency use during the reporting in discussion? How did different frames represent and interpret this event? Why were these particular frames employed here? According to this systematic analysis of the National Day reporting as a case study this paper aims to offer a model for the media to follow on live reporting of such events like the National Day celebration. Meanwhile, a contrast is made between this live report given by CCTV and one given by phoenix TV whereby some lessons and experiences are drawn concerning the large-scale live coverage. The research at last highlights three major media frames which are studio participants, factual films, and global locations as used by Xinhua news agency to fulfill success in covering the National Day celebration. |
