After the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, the Qing dynasty was forced to sign the Treaty of Shimonoseki with the Japanese government, in which the Qing dynasty ceded full sovereignty of the Pescadores group and Formosa (Taiwan) and its affiliated islands to Japan. The island of Taiwan was incorporated into the Japanese colonial system. In 1945, Japan announced the unconditional surrender, and then Taiwan got rid of the Japanese colonial rule. The Chinese Government recovered Taiwan, resuming the exercise of sovereignty over Taiwan.At the beginning of the recovery, Taiwan society was in the transition stage and the Taiwan newspaper industry also experienced ups and downs. At this time, Taiwan people just got rid of Japanese colonial rule and the newspaper industry initially opened the free development situation going forward in the fumble, sprung up but unstructured.By employing the literature analysis, historical research and case analysis, this paper is devoted to carding the overall situation of the development of the newspaper industry in Taiwan, reviewing the changes of the policies of the newspaper industy, overviewing the characteristics of every stage, analysing the typical newspaper development status, to explore the interaction between newspapers and social development and the role in this gambling process of the development of the newspaper industry.
