S.Korean navy ship Cheonan sank in the Yellow Sea on March26th,2010, it reported is the biggest disaster in the peacetime of the Korean Peninsula. The event does not shock the Korean media, but also attracts many foreign Medias, but as the different culture and ideology between China and western world, their reporting methods and angles are different. This article makes a comparative study of Cheonan ship report between Global Times of China and the New York Times based on frame theory. At the same time, we make reference about the structure of frame theory and frame study of SARS reports by Zhou Xiang and Catherine A Luther. Frame theory is a potential process of construction meaning, it is also a dynamic process of choice, stress or restructuring, and it’s the central idea of news content. It builds a framework from selecting some facts, emphasizing some facts to recognize the truth, so it can make some impact on the cognitive of news for the audience. In this paper, we choose domestic paper "Global Times" and US paper "the New York Times" as the research object. We make comparison of the thematic framework, news sources and image positioning of them. From above, we find Global Times construct the accident framework, and the New York Times construct responsibility framework and international relation framework. Thus, we discuss the different image presented by two papers, we find that Global Times offers neutral image to China and US, however, the New York Time gives negative image to China and positive image to US. Then, from previous analysis, we explore the reasons causing the difference, and the difference news writing style of two papers, hoping domestic media can gain further improvement.
