Media Discourse On Doctor-Patient Relationship:From The Aspect Of Frame Analysis

The paper concentrated on the reports of the "Doctor-Patient" relationship from three Chinese representative newspapers, People’s Daily, Southern Metropolis Daily, and China youth daily. These media had different properties, and made lots of reports on the "Doctor-Patient" relationship issue. This study attempted to show the frame of "Doctor-Patient" relationship reports of domestic media with the method of discourse analysis, the study also tried to explore the influencing factors of the frame.The results of discourse analysis showed that the frame of the domestic media reports focused on three themes:Political, conflict and advanced typical. People’s Daily concerned more about political and advanced typical themes, while ignoring conflict frame. Southern Metropolis Daily reported more events about conflict theme. China youth daily performed at an average level.By combing the three media in the form of structure, it was found that media adopted different form of structure when reporting the above three dominant themes. On political topic, People’s Daily and Southern Metropolis Daily tended to highlight the positive results and prediction of policy. China youth daily reported more background. On conflict topic, China youth daily and Southern metropolis daily preferred to report more events in the progress, especially to tell the stories of crucifixion. The People’s Daily focused on results and emphasized the active responses from related department. On advanced typical topic, the China youth daily and the People’s Daily focused on the outstanding deeds of the typical models and the related contents of the two papers seemed similar.Recently the media reports on doctor-patient relationship tend to be more and more cautious and they also began to consciously construct harmonious doctor-patient relationship. However, there still exists some deviation in the construction of doctor-patient relationship by mass media, such as the neglect of other themes, seeking stories while and covering the real problems, incomplete attribution.
