Analysis On Educational Function Of The Museum

With the development of society and the deepening of subject research, as one of three major functions of museum, the educational function of museum is undergoing subtle changes. Museum education cannot simply be understood as interpretation and organized activities, but should be studied from multiple perspectives. Different opinions about the implication and nature of museum education function held by scholars help to enrich the scope of museum education function. Advanced theory is the guidance of practice and plays very important role in the cause of museum education, so museum workers should form relevant educational philosophy according to different museum situations.The government guides museum to play the role of education from many aspects, for example, the implementation of free open policy, launch of museum evaluation and grading policy and promotion of online museum. All the measures help to perfect educational function to some extent. Chinese first national-wide regulation “Museum Regulation” in museum industry promulgated in 2015 protects the implementation of museum educational function from a legal perspective and defines direction for the development of museum. Workers of Hebei Region museum pay great attention to museum educational function and actively respond to relevant national policy and go to great length to put it into practice. But due to different reasons, there are still some gaps. An obvious problem is digital museum still has a long way to go. There are more than a half museums having no their own web portals, and many websites are static pages. Hebei Province is a big agricultural province, and naturally peasants are large in population. However, museums are located in cities and counties. So how to make more people share museum resources and cultural achievements is the direction of future museum work.To sum up, this thesis will start from museum educational function and summarize the implication and development of it. Then it summarizes the characteristics it plays in educational function combining educational status of different types of museum in Hebei Province. Lastly, the thesis will provide some suggestions targeting existing problems to help the development of museum education.The thesis will start from educational function of museum and elaborate it in three parts. The first part will mainly generally summarize the educational function of museum, including the implication, evolution, nature, content and method and so on. What’s more, it expounds the museum education consciousness and laws and regulations in order to get to know educational function of museum from a new perspective. The second part divides museum into five categories and analyses the characteristics of different types of museum. The third part mainly analyses the educational status of museum in Hebei Region and provide opinions on the development of future museum, expecting to provide some reference for the development of educational function of all types of museum in Hebei Region.
