Research On Chinese Scholars’ Published Foreign Literatures And Their References Descriptions’ Items

The Chinese Modern Library and Information Science (LIS) is influenced by the western. Along with "Eastward Spread of Western Culture", ideas of western library science was introduced into China, the early progressive intellectuals that was edified by advanced library science for a long time, changed their focus from the traditional library to foreign advanced library. From Miss Mary Elizabeth Wood founded the first real public library, to Chinese scholars studied abroad to learn the advanced knowledge and technology of western library science one after another, to Chinese can run our own schools of library science education independently, to after the reform and opening-up of China, the Chinese Library and Information Science (LIS) has been through a long and tough time to today’s scale. The Chinese Modern Library and Information Science (LIS) is in the period of high-speed development, its contacts and exchanges with international Library and Information Science (LIS) is also becoming closer and closer. The previous contacts and exchanges of domestic and foreign Library and Information Science (LIS) is mainly based on inputting information and knowledge of western library science, but now it’s mainly based on academic exchanges. Academic papers are an important part of academic exchanges, published foreign literatures of the domestic scholars are a reflection of Chinese scholars’awareness of international academic exchanges.In order to gain a better understanding of the domestic scholars of Library and Information Science (LIS) for situation of international academic exchanges and its position in the international library and information science (LIS) field, this paper using the literature survey, surveys the situation of published foreign literatures of Chinese scholars and analyses the situation of its references descriptions’ items, this paper takes associate professors and above title researchers of the best six universities of Chinese Library and Information Science (LIS) education for example. Use GOOGLE SCHOLAR, WEB OF SCIENCE, IEEE XPLORE, ACM DIGITAL LIBRARY and other search engines and databases, acquire 584 foreign academic papers, and more than 8000 references. This paper using the bibliometrics method conducts literatures’statistics and analysis about the four aspects of published numbers, published years, literature types, literature themes of 584 foreign academic papers. The result shows that the general trend of published number is increasing and the published numbers of 2007 to 2009 are very prominent and the conference paper is in the majority and the main literature themes are digital library, semantic networks, E-commerce, knowledge management, information retrieval and visualization. Then this paper using comparative research methods and case study methods research the reference descriptions’ items formats of all the academic papers, it finds the issues of omitting title item, omitting publication items, improper translation, appearance of Chinese literature type identification, omitting or inconsistent electronic resources’ visiting date, incorrect using "etc." and so on, and several causes of it are weak consciousness of the citation, unfamiliar with or misunderstand the foreign references’ format specification, weak rigor of the format specification and so on. According to overall statistics of the literatures, it shows that Chinese Library and Information Science (LIS) scholars’ published journal papers are less than published conference papers, but most of the published journal papers’ reference description is more normative than published conference papers.In order to better inspire Chinese Library and Information Science (LIS) researchers to publish foreign literatures with more normative, domestic scholars need to strengthen international consciousness, timely follow the latest research progress, strengthen basic academic training of foreign literatures to publish, increase the contribution of foreign academic journals and so on. In the statistical analysis of published literatures of this paper, there’s an advantage of focusing on the research of references descriptions’items of Chinese scholars’published foreign literatures, but there are some disadvantages that it lacks of concerns of young lecturers and there’s not enough amount of data and its level of research isn’t enough deep.
