In recent years, the media’s news rent-seeking behavior showed an intensified trend. News rent-seeking severely damaged media ecology and media credibility. What’s worse, it may make it legitimate for the government to give control to replace media self-discipline, which may affect the long-term development of the media and the progress of the society.With the impact of information technology, the media is in a period of reform and facing huge pressure. At the same time, the media system environment, market environment and legal environment provide space for news rent-seeking. Political ecology make it possible for power rent-seeking, media access system make the media resources scarce, the background of public power bring news media the identity of public authority. The double-track system separate asset owners and operators, which lead to unclear duty and right of management. With the deepening of media marketization process, the appeal of media as "economic man" to obtain commercial interests and rent-seeking grows. Under the current market environment, enterprises lack effective regulation from government departments, vicious competition and illegal public relation campaigns bring the disordered external market environment. At the same time, relevant laws and regulations are insufficient.Media regulation plays a decisive role for the overall operation of the media ecology and media direction. Through economic regulation, social regulation and the media’s own regulation rent-seeking behavior can be effectively curbed the implementation of these regulation strategy need laws to safeguard the rights of the regulatory organizations and supervise the behavior of the regulation department, in order to cut off the chain of news rent-seeking and promote the healthy development of journalism.
