With the transformation of the book market, the strike by other new media, the diversification of the readers’ needs and the weakening of state’s protection for the publishing industry, traditional modes of publication management have become unqualified to the demands of the market. Therefore, it is imperative that an adaptive, controllable measure of management be established within a publisher, so as to control the production cycle of books. Shrinking the production cycle is one of the most effective ways for a publisher to survive and thrive in a highly competitive market and to guarantee the quality of products.Process control in practice means to work out specific and reasonable publishing project, to control the possible effects on the project of various factors, to oversee the operation of the project and to take timely measures to prevent procrastination-all of which will effectively improve productivity.This thesis will analyze several important factors that would affect the process of a publishing project. It will also bring forward some tactics of process control, as exemplified by the<Tao Marketing> book series. In this project, the technics of structural analysis and process control in project management were also used in various stages, including editing, printing, publishing and marketing. Moreover, some improvements were made in terms of the duration of the project and the use of resources, such as using the critical-chain method,and adjusting the working sequences, so that the project was finished in time with high quality. Another innovative contribution of this thesis is pointing out that the project used staff who are familiar with the business process and who have some managing experience. This has been proved to improve the productivity of the whole publisher, and reduced the duplication of efforts.This thesis starts from the perspective of project management and incorporates relevant technologies in publishing industry. It proposes specific methods and steps of applying the method of project process control in publishing, which has some practical significance in relieving the ever-serious problem in the management of publishing process.
