In Software defined network, the controller is the central control of the entire network, whose purpose is to unify the management of the network, coordinated deployment. The controller has two interfaces named the south bound interface and the north bound interface, respectively, for the connection of application and the underlying network. OpenFlow as the theoretical basis to south bound interface implementation has been a broad consensus in the industry. The situation as an interface between the controller and the upper application, the north bound technology must be good to deal with the explosive growth of the application, in order to make the SDN to play its rightful ability. Currently, the major research institutions related to the NBI implementations provide their own ideas, but because of its complexity and limitations of the top research institutions in the business, they did not achieve harmonization, facilitation of the NBI. OpenNML is a proposed model-driven northbound interface solution, which includes the overall structural design and design language model as two parts. It is from a business perspective to solve many practical problems of NBI demand side. The main work and conclusions include the following aspects:To SDN background, researched a typical traditional network management technology and based on domain-specific language SDN northbound interface. Summarized their strengths and shortcomings from design principles, business requirements, user analysis and other aspects.Secondly, from the practical application scenarios of the network, analyzed all potential users of SDN, and lists and analyzes the direct application scenarios of the network. Then the actual application scenarios and business-focused, summarized the need to interface to the North five points SDN network service layer-network abstraction, service oriented, administrator customization, dynamic scalability, and independently of the controller.Finally, the interdisciplinary study of computer operating systems, enterprise application integration of mature technologies (Enterprise Application Integration, EAI) and model-driven engineering (Model Driven Engineering, MDE) in the computer industry, in-depth analysis of the design of these three systems principle and implementation level. And, accordingly, from north SDN network using the actual user interface to the solution as a starting point to systems thinking as the key link to business demand-oriented design of the new SDN NBI achieve--OpenNML based driving model of domain-specific language. OpenNML innovative mainly consists of two parts:OpenNML architecture design and model-driven design language model.These studies and the results of the software-defined network design and application interfaces to the north provides a new way of thinking, theoretical research SDN network application layer has an important guiding significance and reference value.
