By constructing and improving the institutional repositories,on one hand,intellectualachivements and digital archived files of institutions can be preserved systematically andintegrallty. On the other hand,related achivements can be displayed to users inside andoutside of institutions by using related platform.At present,the United Kindom and theUnited States are the two countries whose institutional repositories are constrcuted best inthe world.However,in China mainland,the construction of institutional repostitories notonly start late,but also the quantity and quality of institutional repositories and standard ofservice are worse than that in the United Kindom and the United States.Based on surveyand comparsion,the thesis analyzes the status quo of development and features,andcombined with the status quo of construction and problems of institutional repositories ofmainland of China,and analyzes Anglo-America experience which can bring somerevelation to the construction of institutional repositories of China mainland.The thesis is divided into five chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces theresearch background and research significance,research status of institutional repositoriesat home and abroad and so on.The second chapter mainly ananlyzes the background,features and significance of institutional repositories and so on.The third chapter comparesthe construction status of institutional repositories between the United Kindome and theUnited States,including the main types and the bodies of construction,the application ofsoftwares,capacity,the tpyes of contents,discipline distribution,the types of languageincluded in the contents and the condition of open access of the institutional repositoriesbetween the United Kindom and the United States.And mainly summarizes their commonfeatures,for example,colleges and universities,research instituitons are the main boides ofconstruction and they both launch related projects;their capacity are much of a size,basedon the choosen top ten institutional repositories which include the most cotent resources ofthe United Kindom and the United States;and both include12kinds of content resourceswhich are listed by OpenDOAR,and most of the content resources are periodical theses;the main type of over half of their institutional repositories is institutional,and thehumanaties and social sciences are the main discipline;almost all of the institutionlarepositories main include the English resources;more than90%of the institutionalrepositories can be linked successfully and provide better service of open access.At thesame time,the common reasons for the development of insititutional repositories are further analyzed:open access policies are established;funds are sufficient;copyrightprotection measures are perfect;establish unified standard specifications;service functionis improved constantly and many IR alliances are established.The forth chapter surveysthe status quo of institutional repositories in China mainland,and analyzes the mainproblem.Based on learning from constrction experience of Anglo-American institutionalexperience,several countermeasures about constrction of institutional repositories in Chinamainland are disscussed,mainly including strengthening the publicity of institutionalrepositoies;strengthening the content resources of institutional repoaitories;establishingrelated system of quality control and evaluation;establishing ralated constructionpolicy;financing through a multi-channel;unifying the standard specifications;improvingthe copyright management measurs;strengthening the utilization and service of contentresources of institutional repositories;attaching importance to construction of IRalliances.The fifth chapter is peroration,summarizing the ananlyzing the thesis,andindicating the further research direction.
