| This dissertation is a study on the protection and management of ancient bookswhich stored in Special Collections of Chongqing Normal University Library. Theexisting problems related to protection and management of those books are discussedhere. Ancient books(Gu Ji) is one of important forms to preserve and transmitcivilization. As documents, files and books themselves, they are considered as valuablecultural relics.There are nearly100,000copies in the Special Collections, of which70,000arebindings,30,000are ancient books, including2,000rare ancient books of Ming andQing dynasties. Some ancient books, such as "Wenxindiaolong" and others, are selectedas the first precious ancient books of Chongqing. As proper sites for ancient books,libraries assume the responsibility to protect those cultural relics.This dissertation is divided into four parts. Chapter one introdues some relatedconcepts, domestic researches, and the reasons and methods of this project. Chapter twoanalyses the reasons of damages to ancient books, discusses the methods formanagement and repairement of them, and emphasizes four basic principles to befollowed for the job of protection. Chapter three examines the conditions of thoseancient books and the measures taken by the University to protect them, and points outsome problems that we should pay attention to, such as the aging, acidification andadhesion, etc. Chapter four discusses the problems and the reasons for them, andprovides some suggestions for the protection and management of ancient books.The main significance of this project is that it is the first time to conduct acomprehensive survey and analysis of the situation of the university’s specialcollections, it points out the problems, then recommends some helpful suggestions. Wethink that the essential ways to solve current problems are as follows: to improvethe conditions of the Special Collections, to raise more funds, to train the staff withhigh standards, and to use modern technologies. |
