| Uptill recent days the overall project of transforming presses to enterprises has just witnessed some progress on its track. However, the performance managements and appraisals of many presses still tend to only operate on the scope of economy efficiency. Such ratings may only include the assessment based on the completion of the pre-established sale plans and other indicators, therefore arrange rewards and set up next year’s profit quota acccording to this assessment. The accessible researches and papers about performance appraisal criteria in presses mainly maintain the statement that the criteria construction of every department of the press house should be formulated on overall operating of the enterprise. This theory in fact fails to understand the uniqueness and professionality of the editors’positions from the viewpoints of publishing process.As the major force of presses, the editors should be evaluated by a more scientific performance appraisal thus the researches on it weigh much. This paper attempts to analysize some outstanding issues in the current performance appraisal system using the real examples of J Press. After interviewing publishing experts and studying materials, this paper suggests that there are four aspects of construct performance appraisal ranking system of editors:acquiring the assessment dimensions,selecting indicators, distributing the weight of indicators and establishing measurements. The following chapters will filter out three performance assessment dimensions, knowing as key performance indicators, attitude and ability on the base of strategic direction and editing position analysis. On the basis of enterprise-level and department-level performace assessment criteria, this paper promote using SMART principle to finalize J Press editors’ performance evaluation indicators after a primary selection of performance criteria. This idea also bring in the KPI theory and mothod of the Balanced Score Card (BSC). The advantages of AHP(Analytic Hierachy Process) and weighting factor judgement method are taking into consideration in distributing and further fine-tune the weight of performance evaluation indicators. Selecting indicators and distributing the weight of performance evaluation indicators are key steps in performance appraisal system, thus clear criteria have to be set in measuring indicators in operating the system. To fully understand the different dimensions of key performance indicators, attitude and ability, this paper maintains a scoring scale which applicate quantitative addition-subtraction and qualitative method of grade scoring to measure editors’ performance.This paper tries to start the overall discussion of performance appraisal ranking system in publishing business by making limited research on the criteria constrution of editors’ performance appraisal.lt still calls for more step-forward researches on correcting appraisal feedbacks and measurements to fulfil a relatively complete discussion on appraisal ranking system of editors’ assessment. |
